Andrew Wiggins is off to a hot start this season
This looks to be the season that Andrew Wiggins finally lives up to the hype of signing a max contract. He has looked like a completely different player this season and that has Wolves fans hoping he continues to play at this level after watching too many disappointing seasons from him. During the two-game stretch where Karl-Anthony Towns was suspended, Wiggins really stepped up and helped the team destroy the Washington Wizards.
The problem with Andrew Wiggins was never his athletic ability or basketball skill. It was simply a combination of his work ethic, shot selection, and ball handling. This offseason he worked hard to improve his weaknesses and that is already showing.
He is taking better shots and driving to the basket. His driving to the basket has been so effective that it is starting to create open looks for other teammates. In addition to that, he Wiggins been clutch down the stretch as a reliable scorer in critical situations.
Most importantly, his effort has been there every night. That is something that has not happened since his rookie season. This is what has Timberwolves fans most excited.
So far this season Andrew Wiggins is averaging 21.2 points per game. That is good enough for 6th among all small forwards in the NBA. That is right where he needs to be along with good effort on defense.
If Andrew Wiggins can build on these positives this will be a good year for him.
